Port forwarding (also known as port mapping) allows visitors from the Internet to see the servers that you have hidden behind your MultiCom Firewall. Although you may have 1 or more computers acting as servers (for web traffic, email traffic or other services) the visitors from the Internet think they are always talking to the same IP address. The MultiCom Firewall supports:
  • unlimited number of ports
  • custom ports
  • port ranges
The following list has been compiled from various sources. If the port forwarding does not work for your server/ software application please check with the software vendor for the correct port forwarding rules. Port forwarding only allows an incoming connection to be directed to one internal computer for response. If you wish to connect multiple computers (for instance when playing online games or video chat) you should have one computer acting as the server/gateway on the LAN network which will receive the incoming traffic. Other clients can connect directly to the gateway server.

Additional port forwarding rules and identification can be found at
http://www.practicallynetworked.com/sharing/app_port_list.htm
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers
Note: some software does not need port forwarding to work. Try using your software first to see if it works without any special port forwarding rules.
