The MultiCom Firewall uses a method of assigning subnets is called CIDR (for Classless Inter-Domain Routing) or supernetting and has a slash appended to the end of an IP address with the number (0–32). This number is the number of bits to be used for the network portion of the address. This allows for a more efficient distribution of IP addresses as well as providing a mechanism for supporting the route aggregation.

For tables showing examples of the new subnets, comparisons between the old subnets and CIDR, and a full description of the CIDR please see the chapter on Internet Protocols in our reference manual, specifically the section on Classless Inter-Domain Routing.
